DANCE TALKS – LFF2018

The silent movies of the ‘20s and ‘30s are often masterpieces of editing, and therefore of rhythm, and may be well compared to symphonies. Contemporary dance has danced on silence before, but has never danced on the moving images of a silent movie. COORPI started a new cross-disciplinary project of collective artistic research with the idea of creating a choreography for a short dance film, both based on a new idea of rhythm punctuated by the moving images of a silent movie. Lucia Carolina De Rienzo will explain how a way to dance on visual music can be worked out in order to be perceived visually (both by the audience and the camera) instead of in sound. Ideally, a dance show for a deaf audience.

When does something become dance? And, when is it more appropriate to call it performing art? When the boundary between the two disciplines become blurred, is it still possible to set limits and claim definitions? We will try to find our way through the fog thanks to the experience of two very special guests: senior choreographer Marcel Leemann – already the coordinator of a site-specific workshop in this edition of the Lago Film Fest, and Roberto Casarotto, the artistic director of the B.Motion project, a vital organ of the Operaestate festival and a showcase of the most innovative artistic experiences in dance, theatre and music. The talk will be moderated by art critic, curator and IUAV professor Carlo Sala.
