The partnership between the Treviso Comic Book Festival and Lago Film Fest still goes on from day one. This year, the international festival of comics and illustration presents Fumetti dal Futuro – quattro storie di autoproduzione, a documentary conceived as a research on self-publishing combined with a passion for a particular type of comics. The golden age of Italian self-published cartoons of the 70s, with Cannibale and Frigidaire just to name a few, was followed by a revival of the same movement in the late 1990s, which mirrored the great sense of disillusionment of that period. The documentary features four very diverse

authors: Ratigher, Maicol&Mirco, Alessandro Baronciani and Dr Pira. All four were still beginners at the end of the 90s and all four were maverick authors, compared to the other self-published comics circulating at the time. Comics from the Future explores their stories through interviews, starting from the origins, exploring the different writing and drawing methods as well as each author’s drive for expression, their relationship with the reader and motivations for choosing self-publishing. Written, shot, edited and self-funded by a small group of friends, Comics from the Future was produced out of sheer enthusiasm.
