The reason for this interest in Chinese science fiction is due to the fact that throughout history, science fiction has represented a great unconscious, a place to face and confront the fears of the present that reverberate into the future. And Chinese science fiction is no different; indeed, it resonates with the innermost thoughts of the Chinese continent in its quest for global supremacy.
The focus FANTASCIENZA CINESE! will therefore try to address how contemporary Chinese themes reverberate in the national sci-fi production: from the role of super-cycles to concepts of personal identity and the fear of a “cannibal” apocalypse.
