ComGiova: special screening

Special screening of the video “ComGiova,” a project created in collaboration with the Conegliano Youth Community Association

COMGIOVA – Simone Rovellini
IT / 2022 / 5’ / Documentary

The short film “Comgiova” is the result of a four-day experience that director Simone Rovellini spent at the Conegliano Youth Community Association. During this short period of time, he gained access to the community’s activities and produced an unfiltered portrait of it through interviews with the operators and the young people, who in the process also became authors of the soundtrack. The result is a video that stems from a shared desire to tell those young people who are being contemplated to enter the community what it means to face a therapeutic path.

The Youth Community Association was founded in Conegliano in 1983. Over time, it has specialized intervention in favor of minors and adolescents (14-24 years old) with substance and alcohol addiction problems. Today it is the only therapeutic facility for drug-addicted minors and adolescents, accredited by the Veneto Region: it has also become a reference point for neighboring regions.

The educational and therapeutic action, characterized by a family atmosphere, is co-constructed together with the young guest with special attention to the educational and cultural path.

The “ComGiova” video is a project created in collaboration with Viviana Carlet and the Lago Film Fest. It stems from the desire, shared by operators and young people, to benefit from a useful tool to tell the young people, to whom the entrance to the Community is planned, what a therapeutic path means.

The making of the video is by Simone Rovellini, a director who has distinguished himself for his great professionalism and sensitivity.

Simone Rovellini was born in Piacenza in 1986 and lives in Milan where he works as a director. In 2013 he published C’est la vie, his first short film, which quickly went viral and was picked up by major Italian and international newspapers. From this moment, he begins to direct his research towards the web and in the same year he publishes on Youtube the video series Exploding Actresses, in which he digitally reworks some old cult films with a comic and grotesque effect. The videos get millions of views and spawn a series of viral GIFs on Tumblr. From 2014 to 2016 he collaborates with Toiletpaper Magazine, with which he creates important campaigns and collaborations, and since 2014 he has been part of the Motel Forlanini collective, which has established itself on the Milanese and then Italian scene with the musical project M¥SS KETA. After the first hit Milano, sushi & coca, he and the collective made numerous video clips and toured Italy and Europe with a series of live concerts. In 2018, UNA VITA IN CAPSLOCK, M¥SS KETA’s first album, was released, followed in 2019 by PAPRIKA. To this day, he continues to work as a director in the world of advertising to support his own more personal and experimental projects.
