NEW SIGNS COMPETITION – LFF2021
New Signs is conceived as an overview on cinema that rethinks cinema, is the competition that brings experimental works to Lago Film Fest, is an opening to the many possibilities of today and a state of the art on the cinema to come.
In this edition, the competition focused on films that could reflect upon the medium, the device and the point of view, to refocus the art of cinema in 2021.
The works presented are animations, fiction and documentaries that speak, bring and tell about fifteen countries around the world, which touch four different continents, which tell native and plural, peculiar and global stories and sensibilities. Nineteen films have been selected that bring together the most established directors and young promises of contemporary cinema.
From the temporal fluidity of Aya Kawazoe to the thinking self-awareness of Mercedes Gaviria Jaramillo and Mitch McGlocklin, from the mysterious England of Mark Jenkin to the psychedelic campaigns of Noemi Osselaer, up to the semantic journeys of Tomas Pichardo and Sasha Svirsky: a journey through the seventh art that rethinks itself, that wants to look forward but also backwards, that observes itself trying to better understand its own borders.
All the films of the New Signs competition are presented in Italian premiere.
