What is the Baltic contemporary cinema scene like? Reality and cinema change more rapidly than the terminology we use to define them. And, they are more exciting than our attempts to define them. It is precisely a fickle, evasive and inexplicable kind of reality that these filmmakers describe in this threefold selection of the latest Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian productions, compiled with the valuable help of the Estonian Film Institute, the National Film Centre of Latvia and the Vilnius International Short Film Festival. Three very diverse and strictly a-formal programmes to portray a dazzling reality of young filmmakers who finally got their act together and devoured their own fathers. If we were to try to condense this in a word, we would call it “ambitious”. And where there is ambition, there is hope.
